Search for a Fitting Large Shoe

Being a bride of five feet, two inches in height, one would think that I would choose bridesmaids who were about the same size as I am. Not all short people hang around together. In fact, my two closest friends both stood over five-feet, ten inches, without heels.

The height difference may not seem like such a big deal but we were all wearing matching shoes. I had to find a pair that offered a small and a large shoe in its collection. This was not such an easy task.

Finding a large shoe is not difficult. In fact, I often become very aggravated when I find the perfect footwear in a size ten but none in my size seven. This irritating shopping dilemma plagues women who have average-sized feet.

The opposite holds true as well. The same style that can be found in a large shoe can be found in a tiny shoe but not in any normal range. I guess that the regular sizes sell out much quicker but making sure that there is an adequate stock is part of any good retail practice.

So women who have average feet have to compete with the hoards of females that share their size while the big-footed ladies and the petite-toed girls have their every footwear wish come true. That is, unless they are shopping for bridal wear. It is hard to find a large shoe for formal occasions.

Ironically, the salesperson asserted that many manufacturers make different styles for different sizes. What looks good in a smaller size does not always look good in a large shoe. This makes sense but it contradicts the dilemma of finding teeny-weeny shoes in the same style as a very large shoe.

We finally decided to forgo the matching footwear for the wedding and this was a good decision. No one really sees the feet unless the bridal party makes a point of showing their feet. Actually, I think that the bridesmaids wound up in their bare feet during the reception.

The bridesmaids’ gowns matched but, of course, my gown was very different. I guess that this makes the difference in the shoe sizes a moot point.

While I like the idea of symmetry and formality, having different shoes for our different sizes was probably the best way to go. I say this partially because we had no choice and partially because everything worked out in the end after all, large shoe included.
